Chou Chou thinks of her, Chou Pei loves her Zhen Mi (Ada Choi) is a exceptional beauty. The ambitious Chou Chou (Lau Dan) treats the Yan family as distinguished guests in the name of Zhen Mi (mandarin name) being the descendant of his old friend when he truly was drooling over her beauty. The men around Zhen Mi all become infatuated with her. Chou Chou's eldest son, Chou Pei (Moses Chan) and third son, Chou Jik (Steven Ma) are no exception. Chou Pei is courageous and brave. He does not hesitate in saving Zhen Mi from dangerous conditions, even though it may insult Chou Chou. Chou Jik's talents are overflowing while he is attentive and kind. Zhen Mi originally was attracted to both of them but later saw through Chou Pei, finding him to be a cunning and deceitful man. She feels disappointed and views Chou Jik less favorably. He and Zhen Mi was actually a perfect match. One had talents and the other had beauty. But under the direction of Chou Chou, Zhen Mi is given in marriage to Chou Pei and becomes the sacrifical item in a political war. Zhen Mi holds back her pain and marries Chou Pei while Chou Jik is in much sorrow and loses his interest in writing. Chou Chou dies and Chou Pei finally ascends the throne. He still was worried that Chou Jik would try to take the throne for himself and wanted to get rid of him. He later believes in rumors and thought that his son Chou Hai was the son of Chou Jik. He gives poisoned wine to Zhen Mi , who dies. Chou Pei exiles Chou Jik to a faraway land and later dies. Chou Hai continues the exile of Chou Jik. Chou Jik feels cold and ashen. He walks to the shore of the river Lok and sees, hazily, a goddess dancing in the water. From this, he writes the story that has passed over time : Lok Sun Fu.
